Goodwill & Business Impairment Valuations

Goodwill and intangible assets with indefinite lives must be tested for impairment at least annually, and other assets whenever there is an indication of impairment. The test compares carrying amount with recoverable amount, which is the higher of value in use and fair value less costs of disposal.

What we value

The subject of the valuation

Cash-generating units and groups of units to which goodwill is allocated, and individual assets where relevant.

Our method

How we reach the figure

We review the identification of cash-generating units and the allocation of goodwill, build or review discounted cash flow models on approved budgets, and derive discount rates appropriate to each unit's risk and currency. Fair value less costs of disposal is considered where it may be higher.
